Busisiwe Mkhwebane, Baba kaD’s No 1 protector — who also moonlights as the public protector — was back in parliament this week to account for her (mis)management of the office in the past financial year. True to form, she used the opportunity to utter the ludicrous. When MPs asked her about high staff turnover since her appointment, the queen of poor standards had this to say: “If people resign because they cannot maintain the standard … then we will have to continue getting the proper people.”
