’CREEPY’ COKE CAMPAIGN FALLS FLAT
People don’t want to flirt on planes. Or do they? By Elizabeth Sleith
Delta Airlines and Coca-Cola have apologised for dishing out “creepy” in-flight napkins — which encouraged passengers to flirtatiously pass their phone number to a stranger on the plane. The napkins feature the Diet Coke logo, next to text which says: “Because you’re on a plane full of interesting people and hey... you never
know.”
The other side features a space for the passenger to write down their phone number and name, along with the instruction: “Be a little old school … and give it to your plane crush.”
Passengers have been taking to social media to lambaste the companies for encouraging “creepy” behaviour.
One Twitter user wrote: “Pretty sure no one appreciated unsolicited phone numbers in the ‘good old days’ and they sure as heck don’t want the number of someone who has been gawking at them on a plane for hours.”
Others enjoyed the marketing tactic. Another Twitter user wrote: “Thanks for helping us #single out! can you ship me a box of these napkins so i can use them everywhere?”
Delta said the napkins would be removed.
