Songwriter got Lion’s share

In 2004, the family of South African composer Solomon Linda filed a lawsuit against Disney for the use of the song The Lion Sleeps

Tonight in the film The Lion King and its accompanyi­ng stage musical. Solomon had originally written the song, then titled Mbube, in 1939. The family sought $1.5m (about R22m) in royalties and two years later reached an undisclose­d settlement with Abilene Music, which held global rights to the song and licensed it to Disney
