FIRE AND ICE
The Aurora Ice Hotel in Alaska was made entirely of ice. Everything in the building was ice: the walls, the ceilings, the beds and the bar. So were the barstools and the martini glasses, says kickassfacts.com. So it must have come as something of a surprise when the place was shut down by fire marshals for not having smoke detectors.
The hotel has since become the Aurora Ice Museum, a church-shaped building which took 1,000 tons of ice to build. Open year round, it is now part of the Chena Hot
Springs Resort — a real hotel made of bricks and glass. ● chenahotsprings.com
