TREND TALK

When it comes to trends, Sir John’s advice is to make them your own, and keep application simple

Three runway trends from this season that 1 stuck out for you and why?

The first trend is understated glam; so the glamorous spotlight eyes or shimmery eyelids, but pared down so it doesn’t take up so much space on the eyes. Try pairing this with a super natural lip and a 2 bronzy sculpted cheek.

My second trend is monochromatic terracotta, the warm colours make lighter eyes come to life and make hazel or 3 brown eyes pop.

Lastly is the graphic eye; you don’t even need a graphic eyeliner. Just take a pointed cotton bud after you apply eye shadow and slightly shape a graphic. This gives the eyes a three-dimensional quality and lends itself to a ’60s dynamic.

Eyes are a huge focus this season; what inspiration will you be taking from the runways?

I don’t take a lot of inspiration from the runway as it tends to marginalise creativity — not only for me but for most women. One thing I do like is the defining eye, especially those with tinted liner. I love a wash of blue or denim or hints of purple in eyeshadow, but a more practical use would be to adopt this with your mascara or eyeliner.

What beauty trends from social media or the streets are you excited about?

I’m more excited about the inspiration that is induced by social beauty trends; people are trying new things in the game. It’s refreshing. I love the play on lashes and how we’re welcoming individual lashes and different placements. For instance, adding a piece to the centre of the eye adds a Bambi doe-eye effect, while emphasising the outer corners creates a feline-vamp look.
