Roaming or home, cell giants suck

-

The article “Cell giants bleeding SA dry” (April 28) refers. It’s about time these companies were brought to heel. If you travel frequently and you roam, be prepared for the nastiest of shocks on your next bill.

Recently, when I was in the Caribbean, I had barely switched on my data to check my WhatsApp messages when Vodacom sent me a text informing me that my balance was R1,200.

Scary! I no longer switch on my data.

There is no doubt whatsoever that MTN and Vodacom have screwed the consumer for many years and made a fortune in profits. A classic case of a duopoly aided by an incompetent government regulator.

I’m glad the Competition Commission is having a go at them, but I’m not holding my breath.

After all, MultiChoice/Naspers is a blatant monopoly that continues to act with impunity.
