The word monarchy, meaning a territory ruled by a sovereign, entered the English language via Old French. It was spelt “monarchie” in both French and English until the 15th century, when it became “monarchy” in English. In French, however, monarchy is still la monarchie, and if you split the word it becomes mon Archie (my Archie). So perhaps the Sussexes are more cunning than we give them credit for
