Join the club for a most wanted life

-

● Fancy immersing yourself in the good things of life, from luxury cars to the finest champers, while enjoying a decadent feast in the company of one of the land’s most iconic artists? I did just that last Saturday at the launch of a new venture by Wanted magazine, the glossy supplement of our sister title Business Day. Called The Most Wanted Club, this is the brainchild of Yvonne Shaff, the mag’s business manager, and was opened by Maps Maponyane, who used the occasion to set the record straight about why he doesn’t use his first name.

Turns out the thinking woman’s hunk prefers a shortened version of his surname over his given name, Masego, because even though it’s a unisex moniker it is more strongly associated with the fairer sex.

OK, Masego!

On to the business of the day, and Wanted acting editor Sarah Buitendach explains the reasoning behind the club. “Luxury is no longer [only] about a beautiful bag … it is also about the good life … and spending time with people we care about,” she said.

Then it was on to another media maven, Carol Bouwer, who chatted on stage to living legend Esther Mahlangu about how the Ndebele artist is determined to leave a legacy with her chicken-feather brush.

You’ll want to know who turned up, and it was a stylish mix of business folk and celebs, including A-Lister Peta EggierthSymes, the Premier Soccer League’s Connie Motshumi, model-turned-restaurateur Mala Bryan — the creator of those ethnically correct Malaville dolls — Khanyi Mbau, Zweli Dube and Pearl Modiadie, who stood out in a magenta cocktail dress.

Caterer Vicky Crease created a feast that started with much-needed fuel for an early weekend morning in the form of gourmet croissants topped with Mediterranean-style chicken, and muesli and yoghurt bowls.

Char-grilled beef fillet strips with creamy pesto and oven-roasted herb and parmesancrusted line fish replenished us as the day continued.

My culinary highlight was the pairings of Boschendal wines with scrumptious morsels from Hartbeespoort dam restaurant Silver Orange.
