Gauteng’s death toll rises to 11

● Karabo Ditire was washing his two-yearold daughter’s clothes at his shack in Crosby’s Slovo Park when a bullet, allegedly fired by a Somali businessma­n, killed him.

The businessma­n, who has been arrested, was chasing men who tried to loot his store.

The death sparked looting in neighbouri­ng Coronation­ville, where Isaac Sebako, 24, a vendor, was shot dead outside a Somaliowne­d shop.

Gauteng provincial police commission­er Elias Mawela said investigat­ions concerning two people who were assaulted and burnt to death in Katlehong, and two people burnt to death in Alexandra, were continuing.

Police have recorded 11 deaths since violence began in August. Among the dead are:

● Pretoria taxi driver Jabulani Baloyi in the city centre on August 27, allegedly by a foreigner dealing in drugs.

● A man in Hillbrow by suspected looters on Monday.

● A female security guard in Hillbrow trying to stop looters on Monday.

● Two men, believed to be foreigners, burnt to death while locked in an Alexandra shopping centre on Monday.

● A South African suspected of looting, who was run over near Jeppestown on Monday.

● Two South African men shot dead in Alexandra while looting foreign-owned shops on Tuesday.

● A South African man shot dead while looting a shop in KwaThema, near Springs, on Wednesday.

● Two men found burnt to death in Katlehong, near Springs, on Thursday.
