Broad range of beefs with public protector

The office of the public protector has set aside R2.8m in its contingent liabilitie­s reserve. It is facing nine civil claims from individual­s and companies, including one stemming from an alleged assault by a senior staff member. The biggest single civil claim against the public protector, of R1m, has been lodged by Itumeleng Mogakabe. He accuses Busisiwe Mkhwebane of failing to direct the National Consumer Commission to refer a complaint of his to its tribunal. Mogakabe argues that her failure to do so resulted in a violation of his rights
