GOODMAN GALLERY
163 Jan Smuts Ave, Parkwood. 10am Internationally acclaimed Zimbabwean artist Kudzanai Chiurai will play a selection from his vinyl collection, which includes Zimbabwean Chimurenga and South African antiapartheid struggle music, as well as rare recordings of speeches by Ian Smith, Kwame Nkrumah, Mobutu Sese Seko, Dr Martin Luther King, author Alex Haley, and a dramatic re-enactment of the trial of Black Panther co-founder Bobby Seale. This is in response to American artist Carrie Mae Weems’s show, Over Time, currently on at the Goodman. Weems is considered one of the most influential contemporary American artists. She uses photography, text, fabric, audio, digital images, installation and video to consider systems of oppression and inequality while exploring relationships between power, class, race and gender.
