Maimane wants to get up early, but DA says no
DA leader Mmusi Maimane this week proposed that the party hold an early conference. His supporters said it was to challenge his opponents. The Sunday Times understands that Maimane made the call on Friday. Party spokesperson Solly Malatsi confirmed that Maimane made the proposal but that it had been rejected. “Fedex [the party’s federal executive] was of the view that it would be undesirable to pursue an early congress, given that we have had a congress as recently as 18 months ago and that the current leadership has a mandate which they need to serve,” said Malatsi
