Lindiwe loses her ginger
The minister of social development, Lindiwe Zulu, aka Ginger, was not very sociable during a special parliamentary sitting to discuss gender-based violence.
Zulu and National Assembly deputy speaker Lechesa Tsenoli were involved in a terse exchange after she was called to order for branding Western Cape premier Alan Winde a liar during the joint sitting. When Tsenoli demanded that she withdraw the remark, she prevaricated.
“I withdraw, but he’s still lying,” said Zulu in misdirected defiance.
“No, honourable minister, you can’t say that. You withdraw unconditionally,” Tsenoli countered.
“I withdraw unconditionally because this is a serious debate, but he’s not telling the truth,” was Zulu’s defiant response. At that point, Tsenoli lost his patience.
“I think, honourable minister, you are out of order and I think that’s contemptuous. Withdraw, or leave the house.”
It took the threat of eviction for the incorrigible Ginger to do the right thing.
