TRAVEL INSURANCE FOR AN 85-YEAR-OLD

I was born in the UK but live in SA. I am over 85 years old and cannot find travel insurance for visits to my children and grandchildren in the UK. Neither the NHS nor my medical aid here can help. A friend told me you had published some information on this recently and I’d appreciate it if you could share it again. — Ben Hirschman

This is a question we get fairly often. Recently, a reader sent us a recommendation for a US-based company called Global Underwriters (globalunderwriters.com). According to the reader, it has no upper age limit for insurance, though medical cover is limited to $20,000 (R293,000) for over-80s, while medical evacuation and repatriation is limited to $500,000. Although I had not previously heard of the firm, the reader assures me they have used it several times and they seem reputable.
