Undone Amazon Prime Video The producers of BoJack Horseman take a very different approach in their new adult animation series. Starring Rosa Salazar, Daveed Diggs and Bob Odenkirk, it’s the story of a woman who survives an accident only to wake up and find out she’s a timetraveller who needs to solve the mystery of her dead father. It’s also the first TV series to be filmed in Rotorscope (the animation style made famous by Richard Linklater in Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly), which provides it with a suitably surreal visual style that mirrors its deep philosophical concerns.

Ramy Showmax Comedian Ramy Youssef stars in this offbeat and touching comedy about a millennial Muslim in New Jersey trying to navigate the demands of his heritage with the pressures of the social-media age. Wry, clever and constantly surprising, it’s a smart, fresh take on identity politics that relies on well-crafted characters for its many precise and relevant laughs.

Unbelievable Netflix Featuring a trio of powerhouse performances from actresses Kaytlin Dever, Merritt Wever and Toni Collette, this uncomfortable but deeply relevant true story of the search for a serial rapist shines a spotlight on the way society and the police deal with victims of sexual assault. It’s firmly feminist and excellently written, and in a month where these questions are at the forefront of SA’s national conversation it’s a timely reminder of how these issues continue to plague women across the globe.

Top Boy Netflix A hard-hitting examination of the drug trade in London, creator Ronan Bennett’s 2011 Channel 4 drama has heavy shades of The Wire.

However, thanks to carefully drawn characters and attention to the specificities of its community, the show stands on its own feet as an engaging Shakespearean-inspired drama of desperation, opportunism and ruthlessness.
