Search for the car guard she cried with at Bon Jovi
● It’s been six years since Johannesburg entrepreneur Marian Geddes held hands and cried with a car guard at a Bon Jovi concert she invited him to. And now there’s a manhunt to find him.
After posting on the #ImStaying Facebook page this week about her chance encounter with the young man known only as Sipho, Geddes says she may be a step closer to reuniting with him.
She told the Sunday Times that she met Sipho outside FNB Stadium just before attending the concert with a group of friends.
“I had an extra ticket. I thought about selling it, but I then spotted Sipho. When I asked if he had ever been to a concert, he looked at me slightly warily.
“Sipho told me he had never been inside the stadium but his father had helped build it.”
He decided to accept the ticket.
“I told him he could go on his own or join us. He opted to join the group. I’ll never forget how in awe Sipho was as we walked up the stairs together and the lights came into view and the music started.”
Sipho asked Geddes: “Am I really alive?” “I bought us glow-in-the-dark sticks and when Bed of Roses came on I held his hand and we both cried at the magic of the moment. Sipho was so emotional during the concert. We didn’t exchange contact details because I think we were having too much fun.”
Geddes often wondered about Sipho and when she shared her story on the group, received a lead about his whereabouts.
“If I do track him down I would love to share a beer with him and hear about his life. He wanted to open his own car wash. I hope he has had success,” she said.
