Cosmetic changes can be fundamental

● If you watched the final episode of Top Billing, you might have been confused when, instead of saying goodbye, presenter Ayanda Thabethe ended with the words: “Until next week.”

It turns out that neither Ayanda nor the crew were aware they were working on the magazine show’s swan song.

“That’s just the order of life — when one door closes, another one opens,” Ayanda said on Tuesday at the launch of a new show which sees the brunette continue to grace our TV screens.

Celebrity Game Night, starting tomorrow on DStv’s E! channel, pits celebrities against each other in a cocktail of party games and trivia questions until the last one standing wins a prize.

Ayanda and funnyman Jason Goliath are the team captains while Anele Mdoda is at the helm as the series host.

Speaking of Anele, I was about to ask her if she’d invite Kelly Rowland to play on the show. This was after the gap-toothed 94.7 radio host was roasted on Twitter for suggesting the former Destiny’s Child singer only “looks amazing with makeup”.

I hardly have time to get in a word, though, because I hear the Beyoncé fan, standing on the edge of the red carpet, exclaim: “Where is my makeup artist? My makeup is blotchy!” Ouch!

Other guests at Sandton’s super-chic Italian-inspired spot, Saint, included sports presenter Minnie Dlamini-Jones (the first time I had seen her since the death of her brother), Kuli Roberts (whose first novel, Siren, is out next month), actress Zakeeya Patel, designer Gert Johan Coetzee and singer Danny K, who was with his wife, Lisa.

To get a taste of the TV antics (based on Hollywood Game Night, the US show created by Sean Hayes of Will & Grace fame), we watched celebs including Roxy Burger and radio guy

Alex Caige for Team

Jason compete against Ayanda’s gang, which included E! host Kat Sinivasan and celebrity makeup artist Gina Myers.

Parma ham wraps, arancini and rigatoni with meatballs lined our tummies, but I do wish event organisers could bin the gin fad when it comes to cocktails. Don’t they know new studies prove the tipple is more of a downer than a cheerer-upper?
