HEAD FOR THE ISLANDS
Most of Estonia’s 2,222 islands lie a short ferry ride over the Baltic Sea. In summer, some are ideal for hiking and camping holidays. The biggest island is Saaremaa, and its capital Kuressaare is famous for healing mud treatments and spas.
Hiiumaa, the second-largest island, is home to Kopu lighthouse, the oldest continually operating beacon in the world.
You can cycle around Vormsi island, where you can visit the largest set of round crosses in the world at the St Olaf’s Church cemetery.
On Kihnu, the traditional way of life has a place on the Unesco world heritage list. Residents dress in folk clothing, fish and do handicrafts the old way, and hold traditional celebrations.
