Old people are having more of it, Americans are having less of it, farmers are getting the most of it, kids hate hearing about it, most of us never tire of talking about it, the rich buy cars to get it, millions of people are doing it at this moment, and robots are coming to ruin it for us. If you judge only by how many movies, series, songs, stories and shows have been devoted to it, it’s obvious that, as a species, we have an obsession. It’s incessant ... the banging out of new shows that reveal the ever more imaginative ways we can be interested in sex. Since we started thinking about what questions to ask the participants in our annual Sex Survey, I’ve been researching on Netflix and Showmax.

Naked SNCTM — I was advised by Socrates Avgitidis of Ratepop, our Sex Survey administrator — was a good place to start. It’s about Hollywood’s most exclusive, high-end erotic private clubs, where members explore their wildest sexual fantasies at a hefty price. “Sex is one of the most beautiful, natural, wholesome things that money can buy,” said actor Steve Martin. I wonder if he’s a member.

If you want some vicarious sex eduction along the lines of SNCTM, there are other shows like Easy, Euphoria, Masters of Sex, The Deuce, Harlots, Hung,

The Girlfriend Experience and The L Word, to name a few. But if you’re more interested in what’s actually going on in your local sex-i-verse, dive headfirst into the results from our survey. We’ve had more participants than ever this year, suggesting that South Africans really want to get intimate about their sex lives. For the first time we asked people to share some of their fantasies. We included some of the answers in our Sex Survey spread too. Leave your inhibitions behind and enjoy the issue.
