Postcards From The Future
WHERE WILL YOU GO? Babylonstoren in the Western Cape is halfway between Franschhoek and Paarl. The farm dates back to 1692 and is well known today for the 3,5ha garden at its heart with pergolas, gravel pathways and water canals. It was inspired by the Company’s Garden in Cape Town, where for centuries passing ships would replenish their fresh water, vegetables and fruit. It is also a playful nod to the mythological hanging gardens of Babylon, thought to have been created by Nebuchadnezzar in the sixth century BC for his wife, who longed for the mountains and valleys of her youth.
