As a child, Zama Khanyile had aspirations to become a fashion designer, but meeting two fellow Umlazi residents— chartered accountant Sizwe Nxasana, then CEO of FirstRand Group, and his wife, Judy Dlamini, who was their family GP (now a businesswoman and chancellor of Wits University) — opened her mind to the possibility of a financial career. “They were revered members of society, this ideal model couple in terms of inspiring the rest of us. I couldn’t even pronounce ‘chartered accountant’ but they sparked my interest in the profession.”
