Boutique estate boasts indigenous gardens

-

Aunique new luxury security estate has been launched in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town that’s already making a name for itself by recently winning an award for the development’s spectacular indigenous landscaping.

Only 10 homes

Steenberg Green is a two-hectare ultra-exclusive boutique estate that will feature only 10 homes once completed. Each home will enjoy absolute privacy with large private gardens, sweeping views over the neighbouring mountains, and access to the expansive communal gardens with their meandering pathways, picnic areas and arena.

Outdoor splendour

The communal gardens at Steenberg Green are truly spectacular – and in keeping with the floral splendour found at nearby Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Created by Peninsula Landscaping, the rambling indigenous gardens won a South African Landscapers Institute Award of Excellence.

Bathed in beauty

Flora aside, the estate’s location alone sets it apart – nestled beneath the Steenberg Mountains next to the Tokai Forest, under the watchful gaze of the Elephants Eye Cave. The site on which Steenberg Green is being developed (opposite the Steenberg Golf Estate) enjoys panoramic views looking north over the Tokai Conservation Corridor towards Devil’s Peak and west towards the Constantiaberg.

Pieter Malan of award-winning architects Malan Vorster, explains that the homes at Steenberg Green have all been designed to blend into the landscape with clean geometric lines softened by natural materials.

“Contrasting textures and materials – such as expansive curtain glass walls – are offset against natural stone walls, slatted timber and beautifully delivered exposed off-shutter concrete. The architectural design aims to heighten the living experience of being immersed in such a beautiful natural landscape,” he says.

“Features such as floor to ceiling sliding doors and windows open up the interior spaces to nature – allowing natural light to flood them. The layouts of the homes are centred around large living areas that flow out onto covered patios and pool decks,” says Malan.

Not just a pretty face

Steenberg Green is not just about looks and location. In addition to the communal landscaping being 100% indigenous, and irrigated via a borehole water supply, the homes themselves have been designed with eco-friendly features such as rain water collection tanks, low flow water-saving shower heads and taps, water heating by means of heat pumps, and energy efficient LED lighting throughout.

In addition to this, all the homes will be conduited for solar PV installations should owners wish to install these at a later stage.

Horne advises that security estates are limited in Cape Town, and says that purchasers are increasingly looking for the peace of mind offered by reliable state-of-the-art security – and the developers at Steenberg Green have gone all out to ensure that the security installation is the best available.

The houses at Steenberg Green range in size from 370m2 to 575 m2 and range in price from R16,5m up to R26,5m and, subject to compliance with the architectural guidelines, buyers are able to work with Malan Vorster to tailor their homes to meet their specific requirements and tastes.
