Endangered tongues

According to Unesco’s Atlas of the World’s Languages in Danger, 230 languages went extinct between 1950 and 2010. Further research by National Geographic and the nonprofit organisation Wikitongues estimates that up to a third of the world’s languages in existence today have fewer than 1,000 speakers left. On average, a language disappears every two weeks, when its last remaining speaker dies.
