United have the Blues at home

Neither side could find a winner in the big game at Old Trafford

● Manchester United remain winless at Old Trafford in the Premier League this season after they were held to a goalless draw by Chelsea yesterday.

United, who had lost their first two home games of the season, have seven points from five games and are in 15th spot while Chelsea are in sixth on nine points from six games.

Marcus Rashford produced the first real effort on goal in the 35th minute when he found himself in space on the right but his low drive was well saved by the outstretched right leg of Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy.

Searching for a winner, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought on Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani in the 58th minute.

Hammers make a point

West Ham United fans fearing another mauling were left pleasantly surprised as their side broke an eight-game Premier League losing run against Manchester City.

City have now dropped seven points this season and have still only won one top-flight away game in 104 in which they have trailed at half-time since April 1995.

So bereft of ideas were City in the opening 45 minutes that Guardiola, who had named an unchanged side for the first time in three years, replaced Sergio Aguero with Phil Foden at the break. The change produced instant dividends as Foden equalised with City’s second shot on target just six minutes after being sent on. But, marshalled by the excellent Declan Rice, West Ham held on to record their first point against City since January 2016. Despite starting well with plenty of possession, City struggled to create clear chances against a well-drilled West Ham.

And having survived a couple of early scares, with Ilkay Gundogan shooting wide and Vladimir Coufal needing to make a vital tackle to stop Ruben Dias, the home side took a shock lead.

City’s defenders stopped and appealed for handball against Thomas Soucek, but the cross was acrobatically volleyed into the net by Michail Antonio.

David Moyes did not dance onto the pitch in delight, as against Tottenham Hotspur, instead celebrating the strike on the touchline.

Raheem Sterling netted his third goal of the season by collecting a low Cancelo cross before turning and shooting past Fabianksi.

Moyes was then forced to make a change of his own with Antonio having to go off, but instead of replacing him with striker Sebastien Haller, the Scotsman called on winger Andriy Yarmolenko and pushed Jarrod Bowen into the middle.

Yarmolenko shot over the bar, before Moyes reshuffled his forwards again, this time sending on Haller to replace Bowen as Kevin De Bruyne took over from Silva.

West Ham thought they had squandered the best late chance to snatch all three points as Yarmolenko played Pablo Fornals through on goal. Ederson came out to the edge of his area and the midfielder could only ship the ball straight into the goalkeeper’s hands.

But Sterling missed an even better opportunity. He looked certain to score, but Fabianki spread himself well and the Manchester City man failed to beat him.

Fulham still battling

Wilfried Zaha helped Crystal Palace secure a 2-1 win over bottom side Fulham at Craven Cottage, scoring one goal and providing the assist for the opener, by Jairo Riedewald.

The visitors doubled their lead in the second half when Michy Batshuayi fired a low cross into the six-yard box for Zaha to tap in.

Tom Cairney got a consolation goal.—
