Work remotely during power cuts
● The combination of remote working and load-shedding is putting South Africans under even more pressure.
“Load-shedding undoubtedly places strain on our daily operations. However, with people working from home it has added an additional layer of complexity,” says Raeford Liebenberg, manager at Silver Moon.
He advises:
● Load-shedding not only affects your productivity, but it can also damage equipment such as laptops and cellphones due to surges when the power returns, so take care of your electronics and make sure they are not connected to the mains during outages.
● Control what you can — make sure your devices are charged so you are ready even for unexpected bouts of load-shedding, and keep your work backed up so you don’t lose important documents.
● Consider getting alternative energy sources such as an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) that can provide enough power for your laptop and Wi-Fi router. UPSes will also protect your UPSconnected hardware if there are power surges or brownouts as they regulate energy supply .–M argaret Harris
