Legal to-and-fro over Bompas Road eviction

Some of the people who were evicted from a private property on Bompas Road in Dunkeld West, Johannesburg, are now trying to be reunited with their families. In a statement, the City of Johannesburg’s social development department said it would help to move those who had asked to be taken to Orange Farm and Palm Ridge to live with relatives there. On Tuesday, the Red Ants removed an estimated 50 people from the luxury property after the owner, who is believed to be overseas, obtained an eviction order. On Friday, lawyers representing some of those who were kicked out obtained another court order saying the eviction was illegal.
