● The board of the African Bank Group has appointed Kennedy Bungane as CEO and as an executive director of the bank and African Bank Holdings. He has a BCom, an MBA and an advanced management programme credit. Bungane has 30 years’ banking experience. He began his career at Standard Bank in 1991.

● Dee Smythe, professor of public law at the University of Cape Town and director of the faculty’s Centre for Law and Society, has been appointed co-ordinator of global activities for the US-based Law & Society Associatio­n, which brings together scholars who share an interest in the place of law in political, economic and cultural life.

● Visa has appointed Maurice Newa as MD of the Southern Africa division. He previously worked at Vaya Technologi­es, an Econet Group subsidiary, as CEO. He has more than 25 years’ experience in regional and global roles in mobile telephony, fintech, digital technology and blue-chip, fast-moving consumer goods companies.

● Marlé van der Walt has been appointed finance director of Investec Bank. She has been with the bank since 2010 in a number of senior finance roles, including head of internal audit. She was the CFO for Investec Private Bank for six years, while leading the Basel IRB programme. For the past two years she has been the CFO for Investec Specialist Bank.
