A meaningful encounter
In the 1960s, Peter Magubane needed legal advice for his father, who had been in a car accident. He went to meet Johannesburg lawyer Nelson Mandela, who at the time had too many clients and was unable to take the case. Little did the young photographer realise that Mandela would later become president of SA as well as a close friend. In 1999, Madiba presented his “official family photographer” with the Order of Meritorious Service.
