Mosebenzi Zwane

High-fliers and low liars

Ahem, ahem. That’s the sound of someone clearing their throat. You hear it a lot just before a person tells a whopper.

Mosebenzi Zwane, the former mineral resources minister who rivals Malusi Gigaba in the kowtowing-tothe-Guptas stakes, told the Zondo commission that he flew in a Gupta private jet from Switzerland to India in December 2015 because he had a throat condition. This made it impossible to take a commercial flight, obviously.

“I thought, if I go through the commercial line I’ll have to explain myself here, I was not well, let me put it so. I thought, because these ones [Guptas] are going there I’ll get into this private jet of theirs, arrive in India and rest,” said MamparaZwane, clearing his throat.
