Sithandiwe Zulu holds a lamb while she is being photographed on her farm in Ulundi, north of Durban. “I want to have many more of these so that I can create jobs,” she says. She started farming three years ago after learning about it on a Facebook group. Her career began when she used her R1,200 savings to buy two sheep. “Farming has challenges but I encourage other young female farmers to start small, even if it means planting crops in a backyard at home, because the government cannot hire us all.”
