The European Commission has appointed Dario Milo, a Webber Wentzel partner and specialist in media law, to the Expert GroupAgainst Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (Slapp). Slapps are exaggerated lawsuits initiated by governments, companies or powerful individuals against critics, journalists and activists.
Milo was recently part of the team that succeeded in the Western Cape High Court in introducing a Slapp defence in a defamation case brought by an Australian mining company and its subsidiaries against environmental activists.
Stonehage Fleming has appointed Mario Schoeman director ofbusiness development in SA.
He has more than 20 years of local and international investment industry experience, ranging from fund research and investment product management to retail and institutional business development.
He was head of retail distribution at Foord Asset Management for the past 10 years and served on various committees at the Association for Savings &Investment SA.
Before this he was with Omigsa and Sanlib in executive positions.
Epson SA has appointed Frank Oliveira consumer sales head. He joins the company from Trek Bicycle SA, where he was general manager.
Oliveira has more than 20 years’ experience, spanning retail, e-commerce and corporate sales. Before that, he worked at Samsung SA as commercial director for new business development.
