Weighing up the risks
Countries including the US, France and Singapore have already administered vaccines to children over 12 but most are still grappling with the decision. In weighing up the risks of Covid-19 versus getting jabbed against it, research in Australia by the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute revealed that children can suffer from long Covid but that this “rarely persists beyond 12 weeks”. It also found that unvaccinated children and adolescents with pre-existing health conditions including obesity, chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease and immune disorders have a 25-fold greater risk of getting severe Covid-19.
