Short-term insurer Santam has appointed Carla Jordan as CEO of Emerald Risk Transfer, the wholly owned subsidiary that is an underwriter of corporate property and affiliated engineering risks.
She was CFO at Emerald and has been an executive director since 2012, and has more than 20 years’ experience in the short-term insurance industry in SA. She is an accountant and recently completed her MBA. Jordan is a past president of the Insurance Institute of Gauteng and has been involved in many industry-wide transformation and development initiatives and education programmes.
The South African National Space Agency (Sansa) has appointed Andiswa Mlisa as CEO. She replaces Val Munsami, who has resigned.
Mlisa, who was the MD for Earth observation at Sansa, has 20 years’ experience in international, intergovernmental, public and private sector organisations and covering Earth observation and space applications. She joined Sansa in 2017.
She has an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science, an MSc in geographic information systems and remote sensing from the University of Stellenbosch, a BSc honours in applied remote sensing from the University of Fort Hare and has authored, co-authored and participated in numerous publications and conferences.
African law firm Bowmans has appointed construction specialist Bavesh Pillay as a partner in its Johannesburgbased construction practice.
Pillay returns to Bowmans, where he began his career as a candidate attorney and spent eight years. He was a senior associate when he left in 2016.
Pillay has an LLB from the University of KwaZuluNatal and an LLM from Harvard University’s Law School.
He has specialist knowledge of complex construction and professional services contracts, and has a thorough understanding of the legislative and regulatory frameworks for construction procurement.
