A second chance to gorge on German cream, Milky Chance will be back in February on their second tour of South Africa. Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch tell us what they’re looking forward to

South Africa must have done something right when Milky Chance visited in 2015 to play at Vodacom in the City and at Rocking the Daisies. The duo from Germany is heading back this year as part of their international “Living in a Haze” tour. Since dropping their first hit, Stolen Dance, from the 2013 album Sadnecessary, the childhood friends-turned-globalmusicians Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch have released lots more music they’re excited to share with local fans.

Tell me about your “Living in a Haze” 2024 Tour?

Rehbein: We’ve been on a massive US tour for a few months and we’re now excited to get the chance to go to South Africa after playing in Australia.

Dausch: We haven’t been in South Africa or Australia for a long time. It’s cool to return after nine years. It’s exciting to discover places for the first time but to return to those places gives you a deeper gratitude because you realise that there are fans who sustainably and continuously support what you’re doing.

What have you planned in your downtime?

Dausch: My family is coming with us.

We’re thinking about staying in Durban and then heading north to Kruger National Park. We also want to go to Zululand — I’ve heard good things so we’d like to experience it. I’m excited to visit a city for a few days and be at the coast.

Rehbein: I’m jealous now. I have to go home straight after. But we’ll see, maybe we’ll do a little trip. We have two days.

Was there a show where you felt the energy was great the last time you were in South Africa?

Dausch: There were really good vibes at Rocking the Daisies.
