JACK RABBIT CHOCOLATE STUDIO

198 Long Street, Waterkloof, Pretoria

- — Andrea Nagel

Walking past the Jack Rabbit stall at last year’s Joburg Art Fair, it was impossible not to be tempted to stop and buy an artily paint-splattered dome of divine-ness. But the choice ... oh the choice was a tyranny. So I had to try about 10 of them. Each was more delicious, indulgent and extravagant than the last and, as the box emptied, I determined to find the source of my new addiction.

Stephanie Ceronio describes herself as the founder and chief fancy pants of this high-end chocolate emporium that brings endless joy to the citizens of Pretoria and surrounds — where she delivers her unique confections. Her baking started early in life, cracking eggs into mud and receiving a suitable spanking for it. Now she’ sa qualified professional chocolatier, who’s dedication and creativity brings her customers too-gorgeous-to-eat, alternatives-to-the-ordinary to tickle the fancy and delight the taste buds. Ceronio is internationally recognised as one of South Africa’s best chocolatiers. She’s joined by an amazing team, including a caramel expert, tempering expert and chocolate-making lovers galore.

The chocolatiers won silver and bronze medals at the International Chocolate Awards 2021/2022 held in Florence, Italy, for their Spicy Blonde & Clemengold and Cape Gooseberry & Strawberry bonbons respectively.

Jack Rabbit does exquisite bonbons in glorious colours and flavours selected weekly by the chefs; bars of chocolate too beautiful to eat, like the dark chocolate and raspberry heart or dark chocolate and cherry. It does packets of homemade honeycomb, chocolate-covered dates, legendary fudge bites and many more temptations.

Their walk-in store is open Tuesday to Friday, 9am-6pm; Saturday, 8.30am-6pm and Sunday, 9am-3pm. The factory is open from Tuesday to Friday, 8.30am-5pm and Saturday, 8.30am-2pm.
