Faster, higher, dumber
The world athletics championships in London start on Friday with South Africans competing in five of the six events. After the team’s selection debacle, the focus will finally shift to the competition — and hopefully the administrators will learn about excellence. Caster Semenya (1 500m), long jumper Luvo Manyonga and sprinter Akani Simbine are among those in action, but the only possible medal shot on the first day rests with Stephen Mokoka in the 10 000m. Wayde van Niekerk begins the defence of his 400m title on Saturday.
