Munilall’s making a difference

- MERVYN NAIDOO

IN THE thick of yesterday’s programme for aspiring footballers from the Croftdene area in Chatsworth was Reishnee Munilall, a dedicated coach who loves to take the beautiful game to every child.

Munilall is one of 50 coaches affiliated to the SA Non-racial Soccer Academy which runs football development programmes for youngsters in cells around greater Durban.

Yesterday, when Munilall and SANRSA’S coaches arrived at the Road 515 sportsfield, for another interactive football session with youngsters from local schools, they were impressed.

“There were many talented footballers on display who, with the right nurturing can eventually be quality players at the highest levels,” said Munilall.

“At all the coaching programmes we conduct, we notice so many kids with potential. We just hope that we can make some difference in finetuning their skills and motivating them to keep working on their abilities.”

Munilall’s introduction to the bump and grind of football started in 2007 when she joined Safa Chatsworth affiliate, Bayview Sporting, with her husband Robin.

Apart from taking over the club’s secretarial duties, Munilall was given the reins to the club’s girls’ team and her passion for the game went into overdrive.

Having put out competent girls’ teams for Sporting, Munilall’s flair for the game didn’t go unnoticed. Safa Chatsworth got her to coach their U15 girls’ team and help with the co-ordination of the association’s mass development programmes.

When SANRSA came into the mix last year and offered courses for aspiring coaches, run by Safa-accredited coach Katz Naidoo, Munilall made the most of the opportunity. “From the time I got involved with football coaching, I was always looking to make a difference,” she said.

SANRSA’S head, former professional footballer Super Naidoo was full of praise for Munilall.

“Reishnee is one of two amazing women on board with SANRSA. Her desire to make a difference in sport is very noticeable and she also has a wonderful knowledge of the game.”
