Man shot at in ‘road rage incident’

- AMANDA KHOZA

A JOBURG man is counting his lucky stars after surviving a dramatic road rage incident yesterday.

Adrian Alexander, 22, from Bedfordview, was driving on the N2 towards Ballito when a man fired a shot at him because, he believes, he did not change lanes quickly enough.

“My girlfriend and I were taking my 6-year-old niece to get a costume at the shopping centre. We were driving in the fast lane towards Ballito.”

Alexander said when he looked into his Toyota Etios’s rearview mirror, he saw a speeding black Range Rover.

“He was right behind me so I moved into the slow lane. He drove alongside and then slowed down. He wound down his window and took out a 9mm handgun. I told my girlfriend and niece to get down because he was pointing the gun at us,” he said.

When Alexander applied the brakes, the other driver did the same and fired at them. The bullet missed them and hit the bonnet.

“I took the Shaka’s Rock offramp and he tried to follow us, but he couldn’t because there were cars behind him.”

Alexander said he went to the Umhlali police station, where he opened a charge. “We are asking people who witnessed the incident to help us find this guy. We are just lucky to be alive,” said Alexander.

SAPS spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said the police were investigating a case of attempted murder.
