Devagie Govender
Govender graduated from the University of Natal with degrees in BA honours in English, UED, LLB and was the first Indian female to obtain a B.Ed. She was the first Indian female prosecutor. She was the deputy Director of Culture in the Department of Education. She chaired theme committees at Codesa. She was part of the Justice Portfolio Committee that framed the constitution for the new democratic South Africa.
She was invited by the Indian Council for International Co-operation in 1998 to participate in the first Conference of Parliament of Indian Origin where she presented papers about the advent of indentured labourers to South Africa, their progress and their contribution to the South African economy.
