1 Three-year-old Jamie Naidoo from Chatsworth was allegedly killed by her mother and grandmother through physical abuse. They are in court facing charges of rape and murder. Jamie’s injuries reportedly included cigarette burns on her face and body, a torn ear and a dislocated knee.
2 A 2-year-old Pretoria baby known as Baby L suffered severe brain swelling after being abused allegedly at the hands of her 20-year-old mother and her 36-year-old boyfriend. They are on trial for attempted murder, neglect and failing to get medical treatment.
3 Krishnamal “Vanilla” Pillay from Bonella was allegedly tortured for 15 hours by her husband, Alan Pillay, last month. She died of her injuries. Pillay will appear in court next week.
4 A Durban North woman, Maria de Luca, 44, who was shot three times in the leg by her boyfriend, Gavin Botha, during a fit of rage this year, pleaded with Durban courts to set him free.
5 A 36-year-old man kept his five children and their mother captive in their Springs home for years, allegedly torturing and raping them. Neighbours were alerted to their plight after his 11year-old son escaped.
6 Kimberly woman Bettie Thenza, 33, was found dead in the streets of Kimberly after she was allegedly strangled by her boyfriend. She was a victim of ongoing domestic abuse.
7 A KZN businessman allegedly repeatedly raped his 17-year-old daughter and inserted a heated spear into her genitals as punishment after he found her with a boy.The matter was heard in the Pietermaritzburg Court.
8 Taegrin Morris, 4, died after being dragged beside his parents’ hijacked car in July in Reiger Park, east of Joburg. Three men approached the car and ordered the family out. Taegrin was left hanging halfway out of the car in his safety belt. He was found dead in Boksburg, eight to 10km away.
9 Arumugam Naidoo of Durban was sentenced in April for raping a 6year-old Montclair girl. She was abducted as she walked home from school.
10 Adrian Netto, 37, from Joburg, was accused of raping and murdering his 10-month-old baby. He was charged with murder, rape, assault, child abuse and sexual assault, along with his lover.
11 Kimeera Rajbunsi, 17, was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, Sholin Bissoon, 21. Her body was found with multiple stab wounds near Glen Anil. He allegedly struck her with a frying pan after an argument.
12 A 21-year-old mother of one, Tina Mbili ,was allegedly beaten by her ex-boyfriend and father of her child in 2012 despite having a protection order against him and two domestic violence cases pending. He allegedly kicked and punched her in the face after an argument. The attack left her with severe head and facial injuries.
13 In March last year, Niresh Ramdass used his tie to strap his 8-yearold son to himself before diving into the sea at La Mercy Beach. Both drowned. The 38-year-old carpenter had been experiencing domestic problems with his wife of 10 years. He had allegedly been served with a protection order the week before the murder-suicide.
14 In 2012 Vijen Naidoo did not want his sons, Yuvesh, 5, and Cameron, 3, living with another man so he drove his car into the Richards Bay harbour with them inside. All three died.
15 Ashley Anne Jordaan, 20, and Trevor Viljoen, 20, were charged with child abuse after the death of their 10 month-old son in August last year in Palmhof, Kakamas. He was allegedly assaulted before he died.
16 A Joburg paramedic and her colleague were stripped naked and assaulted after responding to an emergency call in 2011.They were allegedly repeatedly raped and forced to perform oral sex on a number of men.
