Durban businessman’s purple passion

- ZAIL SINGH

SHREVEN Naidoo has always been modifying cars and on his 16th birthday his father handed him the keys to the car of his dreams.

Naidoo, a 21-year-old businessman from Chatsworth, was the lucky recipient of his father’s 1993 Nissan 200SX.

“My father bought the car about nine years ago and since then, I have always wanted to have it. When I turned 18 I stripped the car down and started from scratch. It took me about two years to complete,” Naidoo said.

“I’ve been into modifying vehicles my whole life, started off with toy cars, then remote control cars, and now I’m doing real cars.

“I do this for a living and it is the best job in the world.”

Naidoo said his father inspired him to start working on the car.

“Everyone that played the game Need for Speed Underground 2 would remember the Nissan 200SX and we don’t get a lot of these cars here, so I’m very lucky.”

The engine is a SR20DET motor with a full turbo set up, pushing 260 kilowatts. The engine bay is sprayed purple and has pearl white detailing.

He recovered the interior in grey suede with purple stitching, and the boot has a full Cerwin-Vega sound installation. The exterior was sprayed with purple sparkle and the roof black with purple and gold sparkle. WHAT I CHANGED I changed the 1.8 engine and put in the SR20DET motor with a full turbo conversion. I made special 5/120 hubs for my wide and narrow 18 inch rims. The body is basically standard as are the seats but I revamped everything. I installed a custom sound setup. HOW MUCH IT COST I have spent more than R100 000 so far. RECOMMENDED SERVICE PROVIDERS: Tuned at ODR. Auto Sport Panelbeaters.
