- STUART HESS Why New Zealand rank as the top sporting nation Giants clash in FA Cup quarter-finals MIKE GREENAWAY

at Eden Park after a hoof upfield by Catrakillis to score an 18th-minute try.

The Sharks fought back with vengeance, and home scrum-half Nic Groom was forced into a professional foul on his line, earning him a yellow card, and a torrent of Sharks attacks took their toll before a determined Patrick Lambie forced his way over the line. His conversion gave the Sharks a 10-7 lead, but boy, had they flattered to deceive.

Catrakillis kicked penalties either side of the half-time hooter, and then he pushed it out to 19-10 ten minutes into the second half with his fourth penalty, and in the context of what had been a very tight and tense game, that flurry of points was deemed to be resultclinching.

But the Stormers were just warming up, and the Sharks scrum was putting on its skates.

Lambie kicked another penalty, but that was it for the Sharks. Soon after, there was a penalty try against Cobus Reinach for playing the ball in an offside position following a melee in the Sharks in-goal area after a Reinach clearance had been charged down by Damian de Allende.

The penalties against the Sharks kept coming, and the binning of Steyn 10 minutes from time summed up a night of acute frustration for the Sharks. SCORERS Stormers: Tries: Johnny Kotze, penalty try. Conversions: Catrakillis, Kurt Coleman. Penalties: Catrakillis (4), Coleman.

Sharks: Tries: Patrick Lambie. Conversions: Lambie. Penalties: Lambie (2).

It wasn’t a good day at the office for the two KZNRU clubs participating in the Community Cup yesterday, with Durban Collegians being stunned 34-20 by little-known Wesbank in Malmesbury.

And in Pretoria, College Rovers, who led 16-7 at halftime against Pretoria Police, were unlucky to eventually narrowly lose 20-19 after leading for most of the game.

Rovers will host a Community Cup double header next Saturday.
