FUNDIS have been filling the seats at Durban cinemas to watch the latest Bollywood movie Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

Starring Salman Khan, Bairangi Bhaijaan revolves around a deaf mute Pakistani girl, Shahida (Harshaali Malhotra) who is separated from her mother while travelling to Pakistan by train. The girl is taken in by Pavan Kumar, aka Balrangi, played by Khan, who is a Hanuman worshipper. The drama unfolds when Balrangi and his family learn she is Pakistani. He travels to Pakistan and reunites the girl with her family despite experiencing challenges on the way.

Junaid Shaikh, the regional manager of the Ster Kinekor, said the Gateway cinema had seen a consistent flow of people since Bajrangi Bhaijaan opened two weeks ago. Initially, the cinema had screened the movie at a 420-seater theatre and the two prestige theatres with a capacity of 78.

“Shows for all three theatres sold out on the first weekend it was screened.”

Shaikh said Bajrangi Bhaijaan was the most popular Bollywood movie at Gateway Ster Kinekor to date, and proved more popular than PK, which also received widespread support.

Not a Bollywood fan, Shaikh said he enjoyed the movie and found it to be thought-provoking. He added that the movie would remain on circuit depending on its popularity.

A representative from Cine Centre Sun Coast confirmed that ticket sales were doing well. The source said the theatre had had sold out shows since it opened. She said Bajrangi Bhaijaan had received the same level of support as PK.
