Inconsistent Wits haul themselves back to blunt undisciplined Arrows

Serame Letsoaka, who was Hunt’s counterpart in yesterday afternoon’s clash.

This match painted a vivid picture of just how the Clever Boys can blow hot and cold at the same time ... and despite that, the match saw an emphatic victory for the home side, who took advantage of a late red card to Arrows goalkeeper Maximilian Mbaeva.

Wits went into this encounter clear at the top of the Premiership table by three points.

The Clever Boys are favourites in this title race now, having showed how they can turn it on by coming from one down to score three beautiful goals to remain securely at the top of the table going into a three-week hiatus because of the Caf Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal.

Hunt and his men were brought down to earth earlier, Deon Hotto connecting with a Kuda Mahachi header to give Arrows a shock lead in the 52nd minute.

In another early kick-off, Polokwane City scored the only goal of the game to beat Platinum Stars at the old Peter Mokaba stadium.

Sphesihle Nzimande netted what turned out to be the winning strike in the eighth minute.

While the game featured 29 shots at goal, only a third of them were on target.

As befits a northern derby, there were plenty of tough tackles flying in and the referee had to book six players.

Today sees two more Premiership games being played, with Jomo Cosmos and Chippa United playing at Olen Park in Potchefstroom at 3.30pm, and Bloemfontein Celtic hosting Mpumalanga Black Aces at the same time at the Dr Molemela Stadium.

The league will take a threeweek break while the Caf Under-23 championships are on the go in Senegal, with the next full round of fixtures scheduled to be played on December 19. – Own correspondent
