Adding some thunder to the lightning

- ASHWEN SINGH

IN THE land of gods and monsters, the BMW M3 has always stood out as a vehicle that might encompass both characteristics.

Let’s face it, the M3 has always been the “mortal street measure” of performance and capability.

It has earned itself “demigod” status, bundling the attributes of a supercar with the practical everyday performance of a commuter.

For operations manager, petrol-head and football fanatic Kuben Naidoo, his 1994 two-door German spec BMW M3 is not just a fancy shade of blue transport.

Like most enthusiasts, the Asherville resident’s car is the sum of his creative expression.

Increasing the power on a behemoth like an M3 is skilful work.

Naidoo’s car benefited from performance enhancements such as a Power Mods Performance engine management system, an original Vortech supercharger with custom intake piping and differential modified for additional performance by way of customised ratios.

Also featured is a 63mm front-toback performance exhaust system to add “thunder” to the lightning.

The car sports a custom compressed spring suspension system with a 60mm drop in the front and 50mm in the rear.

A set of classically beautiful factory standard M3 17-inch mag wheels with Falken 225/45/17 rubbers in the front and 245/40/17 in the rear keep this mechanical monster well harnessed and glued to the tarmac.

The interior of this BMW was kept standard and features the factory fitted grey leather electric front sports seats.

A decent sound system is also featured, comprising a JVC USB compatible head unit mated to a competent set of 6x9s and split speaker ensemble.

Naidoo views his car as a “work in progress” and plans many more upgrades.
