When the Gandhis believe they’re above the law

-

I REFER to the article “Gandhis must answer for ‘missing’ assets” in the Sunday Tribune last week.

The writer Sanjay Kapoor is obviously a Congress chamcha (lap dog – to choose the most polite synonym). He is very economical with the truth.

He states, “In 2012 while the Congress-led government was in power, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy exposed how the Gandhis connived…

But at the time Professor Swamy was the president of the Janata Party. He merged his party only on August 11 2013 with the BJP. An online search will verify this. Wikipedia too would suffice.

He goes on to say the amount involved in this scam was half a billion dollars but other sources say it’s billions. One source said it was $7.5bn.

Kapoor states: “In 2012, they had challenged Swamy to take them to the court and try to prove they had committed a criminal act.”

Narendra Modi became prime minister only in 2014. Hence the case was filed when the UPA government was at the centre. So how can any journalist worth his salt ascribe what is happening to the arrogant greedy Gandhis to the prime minister?

Especially since Swamy has been involved in exposing so many other scams and corruption over the years.

The mother-son duo have been special targets of his for a number of years – long before Modi became Prime Minister. And he has exposed them in the past too. Why is the writer silent about that?

He fails to mention the statement from the arrogant Italian queen.

“I am Indira Gandhi’s daughter-in-law; I’m not scared of anyone” thundered Sonia Gandhi after the Delhi high court summoned her and Rahul Gandhi – believing they are above the law.

As another journalist, Sreemoy Talukdar, writes: “By trying to link a court ruling to his battle against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul has shown a callous disregard for facts and has invited uncomfortable questions for his beleaguered party.

“People who have ruled this country for 50-60 years are now questioning the ability of the judiciary to take decisions,” Union Minister Jitendra Singh said.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu, in a media briefing, said: “What Congress is trying to do amounts to silencing and intimidating the judiciary. Taking objection to a judicial verdict and stalling parliament is the biggest threat to democracy.”
