Disadvantaged people can change their lives

-

I RESPOND to Siya Mkhize’s letter. The shack dwellers he refers to as disadvantaged “have no option but to take on low-paying jobs like domestic workers” is a ludicrous statement. In fact the entire letter is ludicrous, and if anyone needs educating, it is the writer of this biased, racist, poppycock.

Firstly, Mkhize, have you researched the numbers of successful, educated, black millionaires and billionaires, and the thousands of black educated, eloquent TV personalities, actors, doctors, lawyers and company directors, who were victims of the racist apartheid regime?

Success is not based on circumstances or skin colour, but on IQ, combined with a certain degree of business acumen.

Everyone, regardless of skin colour or whether they were born into poor families or wealthy families, can change their lives by making the right choices.

If employees were given 51 percent of white-owned companies it would be an interesting, if not an absurd and extremely unfair phenomena because major shareholders of successful white-owned companies, would be instantly bankrupt.

Would a driver have the ability to sit at a boardroom table and discuss budgets and strategic planning? Would he be able to contribute anything intelligent?

Besides which, why should white business owners, who have built up their organisations with blood, sweat and tears and who are responsible for employing a huge part of the black population, be expected to “give” their companies away, based on the sins of apartheid?

If you did the research, you would discover that the majority of whites were not in favour of apartheid.

Is this perhaps apartheid in reverse?

If you wish to accuse anyone of being a capitalist, look first to President Jacob Zuma, who is not only both uneducated and a capitalist, but who also suffered under apartheid rule.

He’s not doing too badly in his own personal financial capacity considering the R275 million spent on his homestead plus his numerous wives and children who black and white taxpayers are supporting.

If anyone needs the highest condemnation, it is him. Since his term in office, could you explain why there are still millions of shack dwellers? Or do you still harbour the notion that the masses of poor in this country are due to apartheid – 20 years later?

Do not let Julius Malema’s red overalls pull the wool over your eyes, like all dictators his modus operandi is purely to coerce the poor masses to vote for his party so he can get into power, not because he has any empathy for the poor masses, but for his obvious capitalist lifestyle.

His recent lavish wedding that cost a fortune with 500 guests proves my point. Not to mention the luxury cars he owns, and his past record of earning millions which he enjoyed blowing on a luxurious lifestyle.

Please. Before you continue thinking along these racist lines make sure you get your facts straight.

You can start by googling the thousands of white liberal ANC supports who played a huge role in fighting in the struggle. MAGGIE TAYLOR
