Joy Brissett

-

DURBAN Girls’ High School pupil Joy Brissett, who is 15 years old, likes anything to do with art, and her dream is to become a photographer.

This year she will be in Grade 10 and has chosen art, biology and history as her matric subjects.

“I have always loved art – painting, drawing and taking pictures. I want to work as a professional photographer and start my own photography business. Pictures bring back memories. Whether they are good or bad, I want to archive those memories for people.

“I wish to study photography in Australia, because I have family living there, or at Stellenbosch University. I am not going to take any gap year after matric,” said Joy.

With only two days left before schools open, Joy said she was looking forward to her new academic year.

“My marks for Grade 9 were okay, but this year I will make sure to improve where I am lacking. I know the workload will increase, but I am ready for any challenge and will study harder,” she said.

Her views on the student #FeesMustFall protests are simply that everyone must work hard to study at university.

“I really think that in order for students to study at university they should study harder to get better marks so that they can qualify for bursaries. There is nothing for free, because our country cannot afford it,” said Joy.

When she is not studying, Joy plays hockey at school.

Tara Price

DURBAN North’s Tara Price excelled at school last year and is proud of her achievements. She sees 2015 as a “relaxed” year, but won’t be spending too much time procrastinating this time around.
