You can’t put a price on a thing you love

- ASHWEN SINGH

THE VW Citi Golf and its derivatives have become a rite of passage for young petrolheads and pragmatic commuters alike.

Its success in the VW stable is owed in no small part to the vehicle’s long life, styling, mechanical engineering and seemingly unlimited potential for upgrades.

Montclair resident Kishen Ramjith was given his Citirox by his father in 2009 when in matric. Ramjith was starstruck by his beautiful set of wheels and began taking an interest in car shows. In 2010, he started customising the car, which is now having its third facelift.

Ramjith left the mechanics standard for everyday use. Instead, he focused on aesthetic upgrades that have earned him a collection of 38 trophies from a host of auto shows.

It includes the super custom trophy at last year’s Autostyle show and the honour of having the best overall car in the Nitro Crew finals in Joburg. His car was also chosen to feature in the 2013/2014 Top Gear show in Durban.

The Citirox exterior has a customised front bumper with an EZlip, side sills, rear lip, eyelid boot spoiler, customised mirrors, window guards, VW logo and angel eye headlights. The car also sports Rotiform 17-inch mag wheels with 205/40/17 rubbers.

The interior features custom floor panels with the VW logo in stainless steel on the front floor, red trim on the dash and customised red seats and door pads. LED lighting, DVD and headrest screens feature in abundance.

The car has nine screens, one on each door, two on the headrests, one on the boot set-up, the dash and even the front bumper.

No young man’s Golf is complete without an epic sound system. This one features four 10-inch Targa street subwoofers run off a Targa Shogun amplifier, Pioneer super tweeters, four Sony Mids, a pair of 6x9s on the boot set-up, all run off a Targa 6 000W four-channel amplifier.

An undisclosed amount was spent on this build. Asked how much, Ramjith replied: “You can’t really put a price on something you love doing.” Service Provider: Escombe Motor Spares.
