Bootful of sound keeps ‘Foxy’ on the run

- ASHWEN SINGH

I HAVE to remind myself this column isn’t only about the fastest and greatest vehicles in the province, though we featured our fair share. It’s also about people like you and me who have a love and passion for vehicles.

Such an individual is post office employee Sherwin Jagesur, a Merebank music-loving car enthusiast who has a lot of affection for his classic, by some standards, 1992 Volkswagen Fox 1.8 Sport.

Jagesur has owned his fiery Fox for more than seven years and has managed to keep the odometer well under 155 000km and the car in virtually mint condition.

His meticulous care for his car has earned him accolades in the Show and Shine category in recent years.

His vehicle features a minimalist, but effective enhancement of the fairly well-powered factory spec 1.8-litre power plant.

This was done by way of an upgrade to the lacklustre exhaust. A Powerflow performance upgrade system was installed from front to back.

The exterior was also “jazzed” up with a carbon-wrap bonnet, Nexon windshields, HID lighting kit and built-in ballast. A set of 15-inch BBS mag wheels mated to Falken 195/50/15 rubbers distinguish the car, giving it an elegant but sporty demeanour while adding function to form.

I have yet to come across a VW that doesn’t have a bootful of sound. This one is no different – featuring a JVC MP3 head unit wired to a set of 6x9s, mid-range speakers and tweeters.

A four-channel amplifier drives the acoustic ensemble and, last but not least, an 8 500W amp drives the Pioneer 12-inch DVC subwoofer.

The sound set-up earned Jagesur third place in a recent Sound-Off competition.

About R10 000 has been spent on this build so far. SERVICE PROVIDERS: • GForce Tyres • Reggies Autoservice • Pro-Car Audio • Powerflow
